Portuguese Technology at the Heart of Colombia’s Most Connected Hospital
At Corporación Hospitalaria Juan Ciudad Méderi, in Bogotá, BIQ Health Solutions, in partnership with ALEAR, delivered a pioneering project: integrating more than ten systems from different vendors into a single, coherent information flow.
Méderi is one of the largest hospital corporations in the Colombian capital and includes Hospital Universitario Mayor (HUM) and Hospital Universitario de Barrios Unidos (HUBU). Enabling these two hospitals to communicate with each other, and with all the technology already in place, was the central challenge of the project.
More than simply implementing MedTRAC® and PharmaTRAC®, BIQ HS took on the role of central broker within the hospital’s technological ecosystem, ensuring communication between systems that had previously operated in isolation. From order reception to repackaging, from stock management to validated bedside medication administration, the entire medication circuit became fully integrated.

The Result
The project created a closed-loop medication circuit capable of detecting potential errors before they reach the patient, while simultaneously supporting compliance with JCI, HIMSS EMRAM Stages 6 and 7, and GS1 standards.
It is a clear example of how technological integration can transform complex processes into safer, more efficient and more patient-centred care.
